Freixo, Tongobriga Archaeological Site

The ruins of the Roman city of Tongobriga, in Marco de Canaveses, are spread over about 15 hectares of land that has been classified as a National Monument since 1986. Erected between the end of the 1st century and the beginning of the 2nd century, the city was built over an important “castro” (hillfort), during the start the Roman occupation in this region.
