A must-see in Guimarães, the Duke of Bragança Palace was built between 1420 and 1433. From residential house to military barracks and undergoing progressive abandonment, in the 20th century, during the Estado Novo regime, the Palace was rebuilt and inaugurated on 25th June 1959, the year in which it became the Official Residence of the President of the Republic in the North of the Country. The pieces that decorate the rooms open to the public aim to create the illusion that the visitor is entering an inhabited house, with collections of tapestry, furniture, ceramics, paintings and arms.
