“Santa Clara do Porto Convent: Conservation and Restoration” takes the reader through the complex process of rehabilitation of the iconic Santa Clara Church. Originally part of the Santa Clara convent, founded in 1416 and defunct in 1834, it was declared a National Monument in 1910. The largest example of Portuguese Baroque, and long a reference in the imagery of the city of Porto, this former convent church of the Franciscan Order was subject to one of the largest conservation and restoration projects carried out in Portugal. Taking place between 2016 and 2021 and involving an extensive and multidisciplinary team of experts, the challenges and solutions encountered are described in detail inaccessible text, illustrated throughout with hundreds of photographs, drawings, videos and 3D modelling.
