Initially painted on the walls of churches and religious houses, the removal of these murals from their original locations and their subsequent integration into the Alberto Sampaio Museum as museum pieces is the theme for a broad approach to their provenance and their
integration in the general panorama of mural painting in Northern Portugal, addressing techniques, styles, workshops, commissioners and the religious and power dynamics behind their production and meaning.
