A major document for the history of the Douro winegrowing region, kept in the Oporto Municipal Public Library, “Description of the land around Lamego two leagues” is a manuscript of the utmost importance for the knowledge of the Douro region before the Pombaline reform and one of the most important for the knowledge of Portugal in the 15th century. Rui Fernandes’ work is transcribed in its entirety, with editing, introductory study and documentary appendix by historian Amândio Barros.
